What I Eat as a Vegan to Stay Energised.

Some days at work I feel completely drained and have no energy. This is because I haven’t eaten enough or the food that I have put into my body has been… let’s say, ‘not very nutritious’ (aka I’ve probably had a croissant and a coffee). One thing I have learned about my body type is that when I am active I need to be eating full three meals a day, with small snacks in between to stop my blood sugar levels from crashing. The cleaner the food is that I eat, the clearer my head feels.

Before work yesterday I went to Harris Farm to buy my snacks and dinner for my shift. I was on the night shift working on reception at a yoga studio. I usually move between two jobs at the yoga studio and cooking in the kitchen or as a barista at a cafe (yes, I am the jack of all trades but the master of none). I always go to Harris Farm when I am working in the city because they have great fruit and vegetable produce, they have amazing healthy snack food and heaps of pre made salads, juices and soups. My favourite part is they don’t use any plastic to package their pre made food/drinks, and everything is put into a glass jar.

Between the hours of 1.30 pm – 9.00 pm this is what I ate and drank to maintain a consistent balance with my energy levels and to keep my head clear and focused. Everything was vegan, and everything was raw in this time!

2.00 pm – Cold pressed juice. I love cold pressed juice because of the process used to make the juice. To make this juice it requires a hydraulic press that doesn’t require any heat or oxygen. In turn, no nutrition is lost so you’re left with clean and pure juice. I got my vitamin C hit with this orange, carrot, ginger and turmeric juice! So delicious and refreshing (especially when it is so humid in Sydney right now).

4.00 pm – Dates and plums. Okay, to be fair I didn’t realise I had bought two versions of the same fruit until I left. Plums were on special, as were the dates. Anyway, the digestive tracks were flowing after this little snack! Both the dates and plums are a great source of fibre, energy and good sugars. Great to keep my energy levels up until dinner time. I ended up eating 2 plums and about 4 dates. If you have trouble with constipation, I highly recommend this snack.

6.30 pm – Super salad & tea. I tossed up between this salad or minestrone soup from Harris Farm for dinner. Although the soup looked delicious, I figured it was far too hot and opted out for the salad (will be back to get the soup though). The salad had – white quinoa, edamame, cabbage, cherry tomatoes, onion, carrot, kale and goji berries with an Italian dressing. It was really nice to eat, super fresh and delicious! I felt really light an energised after. I washed it down with peppermint, liquorice root and aniseed myrtle tea. Any herbal tea with peppermint will settle your stomach and help digest your food.

All day, everyday! Water.
I drink a lot of water everyday. Water is essential for everything you do eg. breathing, moving, thinking and converting your food to energy. It also detoxifies the body which  will allow proper digestion. If you have any skin issues like acne, water will also assist in assuring clear skin. Do not forget to drink water!
