A few months ago I watched some video blogs on YouTube about people who ate bananas for a week straight as part of ‘Banana Island’. Banana island is basically a diet where you eat one type of food for an extended period of time (eg. bananas). It is usually a fruit or vegetables and is designed to detox the body for weight loss and other health benefits. So, you eat bananas for every meal, but you can use bananas in different forms and combine some other ingredients (very minimal).
After a few days, one person doing banana island consumed something like 45 bananas. She said that in order not to go hungry you need to be eating bananas every few hours. She ended up stopping after 4 days because she felt really hungry and had severe cravings for other foods. Other then that she felt great, had amazing digestion, felt very hydrated from the raw food and felt connected to her body.
After watching so many videos on people doing banana island, I noticed everyone was loving blending their bananas into ‘nice-cream’. I usually eat 2 bananas a day, but decided to increase my intake of bananas for many health reasons. Using banana in nice-cream allows you to consume 3 or 4 bananas in one meal (along with many other fruits). Also, nice-cream is so delicious, and you can use all your favourite fruits and toppings! I can’t wait to try many different flavours of nice-cream, so if you have any suggestions let me know. It is the perfect summer meal.
Summer Fruits, Raspberry and Banana Nice-Cream
Makes 1 bowl
3 frozen ripe banana
1/2 cup of frozen raspberries
1/4 cup coconut milk (can also use water or almond milk)
Put the nice-cream ingredients in a food processor, blender or smoothie maker and blend until smooth. Put in a bowl, and top with the toppings. Eat immediately.
I purchased my gorgeous coconut bowl from Oxfam.
